Tuesday Prayer

We believe in prayer at Lake Houston United Methodist Church.  We have a dedicated night – Tuesday, 7pm – set aside for prayer each week, and no other business of the church takes its place.  When we pray, we open ourselves to the living God.  We bow our heads, we offer praise and thanksgiving, and we listen in silence for God’s guidance through the Holy Spirit.

We don’t pray to change God’s mind – we pray that we may be changed.  We pray on behalf of others in our church, in our community, in our nation, and in our world.  We pray for our leaders, of the church and of the nation.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be make for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity.  This is right and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.  (1Timoty 2: 1-4)

Through prayer, meditation, and the gathering with others in community we seek God’s will for our church, for ourselves, and how we may best fulfill the vision God has for us.
