"This Week" with Pastor Frank... August 16, 2017
Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Last week we continued in our sermon series on the apostle Paul's letter to the Romans with "The End of Righteousness", based out of Romans 10: 5-`5. The title came from 10:4, where Paul said that Christ was the end, or the goal, of righteousness. In other words, all the attempts at keeping the law, at earning our salvation by our works and behavior, ends with Christ. It is by grace we are saved, by the gift of God. This week we have some special activities with the Blessing of the Backpacks in the both services. Students and teachers will be invited to bring forward their backpacks, satchels, book bags or whatever for prayers as the new school year begins. Please keep students and teachers and all who work or go to schools in your prayers.
We're planning a baptism in the second service as well. You want to share a holy moment in the life of a child and in the life of the church? Come and see...
The sermon is called "Imprisoned for Freedom" and is based on Romans 11. Paul writes about the hardening of hearts that we might face the reality of the need for God. God helps us to realize the need for a different, a transformed life.
On a personal note, 40 years ago today I was a fresh graduate of the University of Texas with a bachelor's degree in Journalism, working for a weekly newspaper in Lubbock. We heard on the radio that Elvis Presley died and the owner reminded me of an Elvis impersonator who was working at a club outside town on the Slaton highway. I went out there to talk to him and ended up confirming the news and then covering his performances as people came from miles around to have a link with Elvis. We sold out of that issue.
It's better to worship a living Lord.
Faithfully in Jesus Christ,
